Is your body hurting or healing?

Learn about your body's reactions when you detox

Is your body hurting or healing during a detox?

During the month of November, a couple of thousand of MyHealthyDXB.com's readers have been doing the LEMON WATER CHALLENGE - drinking lemon water in luke warm water first thing in the morning. It's been an amazing to do this health promoting and detoxing ritual 'with' so many of you fabulous people - and the response and interactions we have been receiving is beyond what we had dreamed of!

One of the most common reaction we have heard about from you is skin issues and skin spots. In the following you can read about some of the adverse effects that your body goes through when you start detoxing and letting your body get rid of the toxins build up inside of you.

The body has an incredible and natural ability to seek cure if it is allow doing so. When the body cures itself, the cure is not selectively but more on all possible levels. The cure runs all the way from head to toes, inside and out, from the big organs to the smaller.

If you change to a healthier diet and lifestyle, your body will begin to excrete toxins stored in various tissue throughout the body. This is a detox in it's simplest form. It's done by a simple diffusion from an area with high concentration of toxins to an area with fewer toxins. If you eat and unhealthy diet, your nutrients AND toxins will go into your blood from your digestive system. If the concentration of toxins in the blood after the unhealthy meal is higher than in the tissue, it will diffuse into the tissue and your cells for storage.

And vice versa – if you stick to a healthy diet, the concentrations of toxins in the blood will be lower allowing your cells to get rid of the toxins to the blood. From here it can travel to the ‘cleaning’ organs such as liver, kidney, digestive system and the skin.

Adverse effects of detox

Doing a detox, it can be as simple as starting drinking lemon water first thing in the morning – read more here - can give you both physical and mental adverse effects. As the toxins are working their way from the fatty tissues to the blood, it’s not rare that this comes with a degree of discomfort. Normal adverse effects are acne, rash, spots, headache, bad body smell, bad breath, nausea, runny nose and changed stool. You can also experience flu-like symptoms and mood swings. These are signs that your body are working for you and cleansing you from the ‘nasties’ built up over the years in your body. Give your body some time to react and get it out of your system. The length and severity will depend on how aggressive you detox and how many toxins you have built up in your body. It might be worse before it gets better – but hang in there, it’s worth it!

Eat organic during detox

Eating and drinking organic food means eating food that is grown under stricter rules than non-organic ones, e.g., using fewer fertilizers and other chemicals. Since the point of a detox is to clear your body from toxins and chemicals it MAKES VERY GOOD SENSE only to eat organic food during your detox. The fewer chemicals you put into your body, the more effective the detox will be.

Organic produce and the chemical they contain vary tremendously dependent on the country of origin. Some organic certifications allow lots more chemicals e.g. pesticides than others.

We strongly recommend using organic lemons with a European, Australian, South African organic certification since these are some of the strictest certifications.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have health issues or is pregnant you should consult your medical practitioner before doing any detox.
